The Solomon Islands Program Manager develops, manages, and advances The Nature Conservancy’s terrestrial conservation program across Solomon Islands. The role brings scientific and technical capacity in the field of terrestrial environmental conservation to identify and address high priority threats to terrestrial ecosystems, and develops innovative scientific methods, tools, and frameworks – including nature-based solutions (NbS) such as carbon markets – to address the natural system needs. They build relationships with local communities and develop and maintain partnerships with stakeholders to conserve and protect natural ecosystems in a complex and dynamic environment.

This is intended to be a full-time, fixed term (three year) position, with the possibility for extension subject to funding and meeting project outcomes. The position reports to the Solomon Islands Country Director and is based in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate mitigation and adaptation issues.
  • Experience incorporating Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) into project design and implementation.
  • Experience collecting and interpreting scientific data and other information to inform conservation and climate change mitigation decision making.
  • Experience working with partners such as government agencies, non-profits, and the corporate sector.
  • Proficient in written, spoken, and graphical communication in English and Solomon Islands Pidgin. Experienced in report preparation and negotiation of complex agreements.
