Solomon Islands Airports Corporation Limited (SIACL) is a State (Government) owned enterprise which commenced operations in October 2023. The principal activity of the entity is to manage airports and services.
Currently there is a vacancy for a Manager – Airport Rescue & Fire Service. This is a senior managerial position.

The Rescue Fire Service is an integral part of Airport operation in order for the continued safe and effective operation of the airport including emergency response, communications, airfield compliances activities, administration and airside grounds maintenance. The prime responsibility is always the ability to respond to any emergency incident within the airport environs.
The person we are looking for must have the following skills and experience
- Managerial experience with ability to command and coordinate the rescue and firefighting resources of the Company especially between its 2 international airports, in Honiara and Munda in accordance with CAR 139, ICAO Annex 14 and other relevant regulatory standards.
- Maintain the highest standard of proficiency by scheduling and ensuring a recurrent training plan for all staff on all Airport Rescue Fire appliances and equipment and Standard Operational Procedures
- Possess the necessary leadership ability to ensure continuing staff career development, safety standards and the maintenance of discipline by the Airport Rescue Fire team
- Be responsible for the continued development of Airport Rescue Fire team members and the maintenance of high professional standards of service
- Monitor and continually upgrade effective response to all emergencies and incidents as required and render all assistance possible to save lives and property
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and procedures as circulated in the Operations Manuals, Station Standing Orders, Routine Orders, the SIACL Code of Conduct and any other instructions given
- Ensure that all staff are in compliance with all Airport Security requirements as circulated by the organization, contained within Civil Aviation Rules and or by legislation
The person must be able to
- Ensure Fire Rescue personnel and plant resources on each shift are maintained in a state of readiness in accordance with all national and international aviation regulations
- To take charge and carry out effective Command & Control at an incident
- Participate in training sessions with other emergency organisation’s involved in the Airport Emergencies
- Ensure that the required Civil Aviation Regulations for equipment and extinguishing medium required to maintain category on Airport during the course of duty and that any deficiencies are immediately remedied
- Ensure the routine servicing and maintenance of appliances, and ancillary equipment is carried out efficiently, and to ensure that all contractors provide a high standard of work and that accurate records of work carried out are available at all times
- To carry out airfield operational, maintenance and compliance related tasks to ensure the continued safe and effective operation of the airport coordinating with the shift fire officers and the Airport Operations Manager
- To allocate and ensure performance of tasks related to airport operations in accordance with Airport Rescue Fire instructions
- To ensure on-shift training is planned and carried out to the best professional standards as an ongoing routine
- To ensure that all response staff meet all medical, physical and other requirements as determined by the SIACL Rescue Fire Service Operations Manual,
- To provide and present reports, technical information and public relations exercises as required
- Role model a “Safety First” approach by ensuring full understanding and adherence to all SIACL safety policies.
- Comply with Health and Safety responsibilities.
- To carry out such other tasks necessary to the continued safe and effective operation of the airport as may be directed by the Airport Operations Manager
Desired Qualification & Experience
- Certificate in any tertiary studies
- Sound knowledge of Civil Aviation Rule Part 139, ICAO Annex 14 and associated Standards and Recommended Practices
- 5-10 years’ experience Aviation Rescue fire and Emergency Operation in a senior position at airport, military or civilian fire brigades (full time)
- Experience operating under command-and-control structures in response to aviation emergency incidents
- Civil Aviation Firefighting training courses and Certificates
- Coordinated Incident Management training
- Sound written and verbal communications skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to interact with the senior management team and present information relative to the role to ensure SIACL is aware of issues that may impact the operation of the company
